We were supposed to tie the knot on April 12. On April 11, 1944, it rained all day. The wedding party was supposed to have rehearsal at 7 p.m. April 11. We got stuck in the middle of the road in the mud. Finally we walked to the church by 9 p.m. and had rehearsal for the four of us. Then we walked to the bride-to-be home 1 1/2 miles south of the church, and got there by midnight.
The next morning the ground was frozen enough and we took a team of horses and wagon and pulled the car until the wheels would turn and it made a good track. Then back to the church by 10 a.m. That was on April 12, 1944.
We came to live on a farm by Delia, then to Rossville. Had three children, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. That was 56 years ago, and we are still married and love each other.
