Balloons are a cost-effective way to turn a plain room into a fantasy. You can decorate a large room using balloons much more inexpensively than if you use flowers, and the options are endless.
The artistry of balloons can encompass such fantasies as a 6-foot bride and groom, arches, dance floor canopy and colorful balloon drops. Scheduling the balloon drop after the first dance or at the end of the reception will provide either a festive kick-off or a grand finale.
If the bride really wants her reception to start (or end) with a bang, use exploding balloons. A large balloon (usually between 3 and 8 feet in diameter) decorated with ribbons and bows is stuffed with dozens of smaller balloons and confetti and suspended above the dance floor. At the appropriate time, the band leader or disc jockey activates a control and the balloon explodes, releasing its contents.
Available in just about any color combination and design of patterns, balloons are fast becoming the number one choice in decorating options.
Aside from a sculpture-type décor, balloons also make a great centerpiece arrangement. They can be intertwined with candles and tulle, attached by ribbons to bud vases, party bags or baskets. They can also be used to highlight themes and holiday decorations, such as top hats, Christmas stockings and party horns.
Balloons can be tied to the backs of chairs or tied to the top of a wicker basket - to resemble a hot air balloon. The basket can be used to hold gift envelopes, reception favors or birdseed to shower the couple in a fond farewell.
If decorating with balloons, pay close attention to the height of the ceiling. The ceiling should be at least 10 feet high to accommodate arches and canopies. Colors of balloons should complement the color scheme of the wedding and/or the room's décor.
